
On 15 April 2025, the judiciary published updated <a href="https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Refreshed-AI-Guidance-published-version.pdf" target="_blank" class="news-text_link">guidance</a> to assist judicial office holders on using AI. The updated guidance was published by the Lady Chief Justice (“<span class="news-text_medium">LCJ</span>”), the Master of the Rolls, the Senior President of Tribunals (“<span class="news-text_medium">SPT</span>”) and the Deputy Head of Civil Justice. It replaces the guidance published in December 2023.
The accompanying <a href="https://www.judiciary.uk/guidance-and-resources/artificial-intelligence-ai-judicial-guidance-2/" target="_blank" class="news-text_link">press release</a> notes that the updated guidance:
The updated guidance applies to all judicial office holders for whom the LCJ and SPT are responsible, their clerks, judicial assistants, legal advisers and officers and other support staff. Any use of AI by or on behalf of the judiciary must be consistent with the judiciary's overarching obligation to protect the integrity of the administration of justice.
